Addis Ababa, Ethiopia | 28 May 2024:
Ethiopia’s construction industry is forecasted to grow by 8.9% from 2024 to 2027 (Source: International Monetary Fund). The sector’s growth is largely driven by an increase in direct foreign investment alongside continued investment in development projects within the region. Construction remains a sector bright with growth and transformation potential – a reality recognised by Big 5 Construct Ethiopia, now hosting its second edition from 30 May – 1 June 2024.
To recognize the industry’s exciting potential, Big 5 Construct Ethiopia will open its doors on 30 May, to bring together 9,000+ design and construction as well as building maintenance and facility management professionals including influential industry decision-makers, experts and thought leaders, to meet with more than 157 exhibitors from 22 countries.

To realize the inspiring potential of the industry, Big 5 Construct Ethiopia 2024 aims to address local construction and infrastructure-based needs through innovative solutions, covering the entire construction industry from building services to smart construction technologies,” said H.E. Chaltu Sani, Minister of Urban and Infrastructure.
To further bolster the event’s credibility and commitment to providing market-leading expertise and insight, the event has revealed its inaugural 2024 Advisory Board. The board comprises leaders and experts from the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation, Ethiopian Association of Civil Engineers, Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure Development – Ethiopian Construction Authority, BIGAR Builders and Developers, Alpha Post Tension, Afro-European Engineers, CBE New Head Office Building, Addis Ababa University, YEMA Architecture, Warkalab Design and Tadesse Girmay Consulting Architects.

“The programme curated by the event and our 2024 Advisory Board is designed to provide attendees with deep insights into trends, insights and developments within the sector and the region.”
Commenting on the event and its potential to create a pathway for companies to share insights and transform innovation, Dr Abraham Assefa, Assistant Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Addis Ababa University and CEO, Nawab Engineering, one of the Advisory Board members, said: “I believe effective project management in Ethiopia’s construction industry requires a blend of innovation, adoption of international best practices, collaboration and attention to local dynamics. As we gather at Big 5 Construct Ethiopia, I’m looking forward to discussing how improved coordination, the adoption of modern technologies and the development of skilled talent can boost project delivery standards and optimize resource utilization and ultimately lead to improved productivity in the industry.”
The event will once again be hosting the invite-only Ministerial Forum, providing ministers with the opportunity to discuss the challenges, threats and opportunities within the construction industry. Designed to provide leaders with a space within which to discuss relevant and prevalent issues, the forum is focused on bolstering resilience within the Ethiopian construction sector.
The talks at the event include Sustainability, Project Management, Technology, Architecture & Design, Engineering and Infrastructure.
